A Growing Little Man

Since Carson is now 2 years old and his age is not measured in months anymore, I've stopped doing the monthly updates on his life. But I will still be keeping you updated on his developments through random posts. They just won't be as regular. Hope you enjoy them! :)

Carson sure keeps us laughing. The things he comes up with are just downright hilarious sometimes. He's on this kick where everything is the biggest, longest, tallest, shortest, smallest, shiniest, etc. whatever that he has ever seen. Here are a couple examples of how he has used this phrase lately:

The other day, we were playing outside, enjoying the beautiful weather and digging holes in the flower garden. Carson dug up a worm that was about 2 inches long. Immediately upon seeing the worm, he exclaimed, "Wow! That's the biggest snake I ever see!" He was determined that the worm was actually a snake and refused to accept the fact that it was, indeed, a worm. And 2 inches was huge to him! Hopefully he'll get to see some real snakes during our trip to the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo and Rainforest in a couple of weeks. I'm sure he will just be amazed!

Another example... We were shopping a week or so ago and we saw little boy with rather big hair. Carson pointed to him and said, "That's the tallest hair I ever see, Mama." It was hard not to just burst out laughing! Thankfully we were out of earshot of the boy and his mother.

Carson is also very sensitive lately. He gets his feelings hurt so easily and will just want to hug and cuddle while telling you, "I'm sad, Mama. I'm SO sad, Mama." He gets sad when he sees sad things on TV having to do with pets, too. Whenever that ASPCA commercial with the Sarah MacLachlan song playing comes on TV, he hears it where ever he is in the house and comes running and actually cries while saying he's so sad. He just gets so upset by it. He gets sad when he sees one of the Little Einstein shows where they have to say goodbye as they put their music pet on the train, too. That makes him cry, as well. It seems he has a big soft spot in his heart for animals just like his Mama and Daddy do!

Carson is also very loving. He loves everything these days. Many times a day, he'll be in the middle of something and will stop and come up to you, giving you a big hug and kiss while saying, "I love you, Mama/Daddy/Grandma/etc." It is the best thing ever. He also quite often picks up his blankie, or a toy of his, hugging it, and saying "I love my blankie/yellow teddy bear/ball/train/screwdriver/etc." And he tells Jet and Denver that he loves them daily, as well. It's so cute.

Carson is just soaking everything in still. He continues to love books and is memorizing many, many of his favorites. He loves to read them to you - he is so proud. We are still learning our letters and try to do some fun activities that have something to do with the letter whenever we can, as well. Carson is very good at picking out letters and telling you some words that begin with that letter. He still loves his numbers, too. He loves to count, both forwards and backwards. And loves to tell you how many are in a double/both, triple, quadruple, etc. We are going to start working on counting in French and Spanish now, too.

We have now entered the "mine" phase. I was hoping we'd skip this one. I really don't know how/where he picked it up. He's not bad about it, at least. He just claims everything as his... my house, my couch, my book, my blankie, my tv, my remote, my dog, my bushes, my trees, my window, my mailbox, my dirt, my yard, my fence, my gate... everything is Carson's now. :) He hasn't really started the part of grabbing something you have and saying "that's mine," at least. He just points at it and says it. I know this is just a phase of development that every 2-year old goes through, but I do hope we pass through it quickly. At least, we're starting to leave the "No" phase behind a bit. He's more likely to say "doesn't like this" or "don't like that" instead now.

I could keep going, but that's enough for now. We are just having so much fun and are so blessed to have such a fun-loving, sensitive, funny, hyper, smart, and sweet little man!

Sounds like he's growing well and loving life :) So sweet that he is so sensitive and loves animals already. Don't rush the my/me stage...it's great for development. They won't be able to share well for a while. Totally normal. Don't force it.

Is that Kevin's old suit he's wearing in the last pic? Too cute.

Sounds like Carson and Rebecca are doing lots of similar things. Everything that is big is huge :) Or else it's small...even if it isn't really huge or small :P And she loves big hugs and kisses too. She grabs my face with both hands and plants a big one on my lips :) Isn't it the best? 2 year olds are so much fun! So glad to hear Carson is doing so well. Can't wait to see you in a couple weeks. Thanks for all the updated posts :)

Yep, that's Kevin's old suit in that last pic. And notice he has one of those UPF swim shirts and his swim shoes on with it? :) We were going through his clothes and wanted to layer on all sorts of strange things. :)
