Summer Bucket List 2012

With a new baby joining us very soon, we won't likely be doing as much traveling as we normally would do in the summer time.  So I figured I'd jump on the bandwagon and make a Summer 2012 Bucket List in honor of today being the unofficial kick-off for summer.  Hopefully we'll actually get to do most of these things, but obviously much will depend on the new baby and her personality and flexibility.  Some items will be much more easily accomplished than others and some will be accomplished many times over, but we'll try our best to make it through the list.  So here is our family bucket list for this summer... numbered, but in no particular order whatsoever...

1.  Meet up with friends at a local park.

2.  Meet up with friends at the Bicentennial Park Splash Pad.

3.  Go on a family hike on the Dauner-Martin trails in Fenton

4.  Camp in a tent in the backyard... we'd actually really like to go camping at a campground, but I'm thinking that is pretty unlikely this summer, so we'll do some backyard camping instead.

5.  Father-son camping trip... the backyard camping will be fun for all of us, but Kevin and Carson both really want to do a father-son camping trip for one night at a campground within an hour or two of our house, as well.

6.  Play with bubbles in the backyard.

7.  Take a short walk to get ice cream together as a family at The Twist.

8.  Make and eat homemade popsicles.

9.  Meet up with family from the west side of the state in the Lansing area for playtime and hanging out.

10.  Draw in the driveway with sidewalk chalk.

11.  Fly a kite.

12.  Take a day trip to Lake Michigan (either to Grand Haven or South Haven... we seem to always migrate towards Holland, so we figure we should change it up... we've been to Grand Haven many times before, but not in the last couple of years and we've never been to South Haven.).

13.  Take a day trip to Lake Huron (either to East Tawas or Port Austin... we've never been to either).

14.  Walk through the forest at Hartwick Pines State Park... we'll be there to photograph a wedding in August.

15.  Visit the Grand Blanc Farmers' Market for one of their kids' days.

16.  Go fruit picking at a local farm/orchard.

17.  Visit a local park that we have never been to.

18.  Set up a playdate with Carson's friends from preschool.

19.  Catch fireflies and put them in a jar.

20.  Invite the neighbors over for a fire in the backyard, make s'mores, and have fun with sparklers.

21.  Visit a local beach - Holly State Park, Silver Lake Beach, Clover Beach.

22.  Attend a Silver Lake Ski Club ski show.

23.  Do messy finger and feet painting in the backyard.

24.  Swim as much as possible in our backyard pool.

25.  Attend Vacation Bible School at Faith Lutheran.

26.  Attend summer camp for a week in August at Faith Lutheran.

27.  Visit the local library for story time and/or other activities for kids.

28.  Go play miniature golf.

29.  Go to an outdoor community concert in one of the local parks.

30.  Visit a friend or family member we have not seen in awhile.

Ok, so that's our list for now.  I may come back and add to it as I think of more things, but it's a pretty good start.  Look for more blog updates soon... I need to catch up on some posts dating back to Easter!

Looks like a great list! We plan to do many of the same things.

I bet Kevin and Carson will love a father son trip. How neat. And it will be a nice break for you ;)

We never go to Grand Haven because it is always so busy. Last weekend we went to Hoffmaster and it was busy, but nothing too crazy. We read that GH had lines of hundreds of cars, waiting hours to get in that same day. No thanks :P

I'm hoping the weather is decent and Rebecca and I can do mini golf next Saturday. There is a place right by our house we've never been to.

If it interests you to try a trip to MI's Adventure again this summer we'd love to go with you guys! We're planning to go at least once but we haven't figured out when yet.

With the crazy weather we've already had a few trips to the local ice cream shop. One of our favorite things to do :)

Many of the things I listed are things we do normally in the summer, anyway... but I still included them. We've already been doing bubbles, sidewalk chalk, playdates (though many more to come once I'm on mat leave, I hope!), swimming in the pool, library, parks, and ice cream at the Twist (well, Kevin and Carson have been eating it... I just go along for the walk since I can't eat it right now)... but they're there anyway since I figure we'll be doing mostly easy, yet fun stuff once the baby comes. :)

I love Hoffmaster! We haven't been since we went camping there two years ago, though. I'd like to go to Muskegon St Park at some point, too. I've heard its pretty nice, too. GH is known for being busy, that's for sure. It'd be nice to go there on a weekday, ideally... but I'm not sure if they do the musical fountain during the week?? That is one thing we think Carson would love to see.

When I was making this list, I was actually wondering if you guys might go to Michigan's Adventure sometime over Labor Day weekend, or not. We might be up for a trip in August sometime... although we already have lots of plans on the Saturdays in August (Grayling for the wedding on 8/4 & 8/5, reception in Saranac on 8/11 and Brooklynn's 1st bday on 8/18). Maybe the last weekend? Or Saturday of Labor Day weekend? And who knows, maybe I'd be ready by the end of July. I would have been w/ Carson, but I know I can't expect the same from this baby. ;)

I'm hoping we can meet up with you and the kids at least once this summer in Lansing... like on a weekday while I'm off on maternity leave. There are some really fun playgrounds/parks, the children's gardens at MSU, the zoo, splash pads, etc. I'd still also like to make a trip to Mooville at some point, too.
