Fall is in the Air!

Fall is definitely in the air.  We've had some mixed up weather these last couple of weeks - some cool days, some warm days, some cool nights (like in the 40s!), some warm nights.  So since we didn't end up going to the Tigers game on Saturday, we decided to do a little apple tour.  We went to Parshallville and to Spicer's Orchard.  It was a fun way to spend a few hours in the afternoon!

Carson has never been to Parshallville and it had been many years since Kevin and Sara had been there.  We tried to go there last year, but the line to get in scared us away, so we never stopped.  We figured we'd beat the crowds this year and go early.  It worked.  :)  We spent a good deal of time down by the river, watching the dam and waterfalls and watching the water wheel on the backside of the mill.  We picked up some donuts, caramel apple slices with sprinkles (Carson's choice), and apple cider.  Carson was excited to get his cider in an apple shaped cup.  We sat down by the river enjoying our snacks.  Wow, their caramel apples are delicious!!  Better than other places.  Maybe it was the sprinkles, but I think their caramel was amazing.  After our snack, we walked around the grounds and took a hike on their nature trails.  It was a nice walk.

After our time at Parshallville, we weren't ready to go home, so we decided to head over to Spicer's Orchard to play.  We didn't want to do any of the typical orchard stuff since we'd had cider, donuts, and a caramel apple already... we just wanted to play.  They have a fantastic play area for kids. This was Carson's and Mama's second trip in two weeks to Spicer's - that's how much we like to play there.  :)  Carson was most excited to try the fire pole in the castle playscape this time!

It was a simple, cheap, and super fun Saturday afternoon!  These are the best kind of Saturdays!

What a fun Saturday! The Grist Mill...reminds me of childhood. I loved that place. Maybe some day we'll get back there again...and try a caramel apple. LOVE caramel apples. Especially in the fall. Carson is looking so big!

We used to go to Parshallville all the time when I was a child, too. Its changed, though. Kevin and I both remember watching them press the apples or something in the main room of the mill. Now its just a store and you don't see anything. The water wheel still runs outside, but we both swear we used to watch stuff inside. It's been so long since either of us had been to Parshallville, though.

I don't remember the details either. I was quite young. I just remember the big water wheel outside and watching the boys skip rocks.
