We took a trip to the Detroit Zoo on Saturday afternoon. Kevin and I haven’t been to the Detroit Zoo in ages, and we’ve been wanting to visit for awhile now. So we finally decided it’d be a good day to go. The weather was cooler, so we wouldn’t be sweating our booties off and we figured the animals would be more likely to be out and about if it was a little cooler.
We got to see lots of animals! The only ones that were hiding were the polar bears. We got to see everything else that we wanted to see. We took lots of pictures of many of the animals so that we can start working on a learning project at home this winter. Carson was really looking forward to seeing the gorilla. Thankfully, we got some great views of him! Mama was excited to see her favorite zoo animals – the zebras and giraffes. And Daddy was excited to see the wallabies. Carson said his favorites were the gorilla and the zebras. But he also got a kick out of the penguins and the flamingos sleeping on one leg.
We've been learning about maps at home lately - pirate treasure maps and road maps mostly. Carson was excited to see the zoo had a map and he loved reading it! He carried the map along almost the entire way, directing us different ways. He was quite good at reading the map.
There were lots of peacocks roaming around. Carson loved them! He enjoyed feeding some peacocks some bun and popcorn. He started out with just one... and soon had a swarm of five! He thought it was so fun!
It was a wonderful trip to the zoo! Carson really enjoys going to the zoo and it’d been awhile since we’d been to one. Carson did go to Potter Park Zoo in Lansing with Nana and Papa in August, though. And we’re all looking forward to visiting the Memphis Zoo when we’re in Tennessee next week! At least we’re making good use of our zoo membership. J
